The New York Yankees got a tough win over the Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim yesterday at Angel Stadium with the Yankees picking up the W 6 to 5. Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes (3.04 ERA) got the win, while Matt Palmer (4.03 ERA) took the loss for the Angels. Chad Gaudin went 4.2 innings for the Yankees, allowed 6 hits, one home run and 2 earned runs with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Yankees was Alfredo Aceves (3.87), and Damaso Marte (10.97). The Angels’s starter Ervin Santana went 6 innings, allowed 9 hits, 3 home runs and 4 earned runs with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. Darren Oliver (2.55) also pitched for the Angels. With the win, Hughes’s record goes to 8-3, while Palmer is at 10-2. Mariano Rivera earned the save for the Yankees, bringing his saves up to 41.
In addition to the 6 runs, the Yankees scored 10 hits and committed 2 errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Yankees, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Kendry Morales had the most hits for the Angels (4), followed by Chone Figgins (3), and Maicer Izturis (2). Vladimir Guerrero could not get much going at the plate as he left 5 runners on base. The Angels managed 5 runs, 12 hits and one error.
Umpiring duties were performed by C.B. Bucknor, Mike Everitt, Brian Gorman and Gerry Davis. There were 40,374 Angels ticket holders in attendance at Angel Stadium.
