Orioles lose to Yankees 9-6

The New York Yankees challenged the the Baltimore Orioles yesterday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards with the Yankees triumphant 9 to 6. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with Orioles tickets sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 15 runs! Talk about excitement!

Yankees pitcher Damaso Marte (9.35 ERA) got the win, while Chris Ray (6.75 ERA) took the loss for the Orioles. A.J. Burnett went 5.1 innings for the Yankees, allowed 11 hits, 2 home runs and 6 earned runs with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Yankees was David Robertson (3.46), and Phil Coke (5.06). The Orioles’s starter David Hernandez went 5 innings, allowed 4 hits, 3 home runs and 5 earned runs with 6 walks and 7 strikeouts. Dennis Sarfate (7.11), Alberto Castillo (3.00), Matt Albers (5.63), and Cla Meredith (4.47) also pitched for the Orioles. With the win, Marte’s record goes to 1-1, while Ray falls to 0-3. Mariano Rivera earned the save for the Yankees, bringing his saves up to 38.

In addition to the 9 runs, the Yankees managed 12 hits and committed one error. Robinson Cano led the Yankees in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Melky Cabrera’s 2 hits, and Jorge Posada with 2. Mark Teixeira had a tough day at the plate, leaving 6 runners on base. Melvin Mora, Nolan Reimold and Nick Markakis all got 3 hits for the Orioles. Matt Wieters could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Orioles mustered 6 runs, 13 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Angel Hernandez, Randy Marsh, Lance Barksdale and Marvin Hudson. There were 25,782 Orioles ticket holders in attendance at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

The win puts the Yankees at a record of 84-48, at the top of their division, while the loss brings the Orioles to 54-79, (30.5 games behind the division leader). The Orioles get a chance for revenge tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
