Yankees 5 – Orioles 1

The New York Yankees did battle with the the Baltimore Orioles yesterday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards with the Yankees picking up the W 5 to 1. It was one heck of a game that folks with Yankees tickets aren’t likely to forget.

Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte (4.03 ERA) got the win, while Jeremy Guthrie (5.18 ERA) took the loss for the Orioles. Andy Pettitte went 8 solid innings for the Yankees, allowed 2 hits, one home run and one earned run with no walks and 8 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Yankees was Brian Bruney (4.30). The Orioles’s starter Jeremy Guthrie went 6 innings, allowed 4 hits, one home run and 2 earned runs with one walk and 2 strikeouts. Mark Hendrickson (4.63), and Brian Bass (4.91) also pitched for the Orioles. With the win, Pettitte’s record goes to 12-6, while Guthrie is at 9-13. Mariano Rivera earned the save for the Yankees, bringing his saves up to 37.

In addition to the 5 runs, the Yankees scored 10 hits and committed one error. Nick Swisher led the Yankees in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Melky Cabrera’s 2 hits, and Robinson Cano with 2. Melky Cabrera had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Orioles didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Nolan Reimold could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Orioles managed one run, 3 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Marvin Hudson, Angel Hernandez, Randy Marsh and Lance Barksdale. There were 25,063 Orioles ticket holders in attendance at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

The win puts the Yankees at a record of 83-48, at the top of their division, while the loss brings the Orioles to 54-78, (29.5 games behind the division leader). The Orioles will try to get a game back from the Yankees tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
