The New York Yankees took on the the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday at Rogers Centre with the Yankees coming out on top 10 to 5. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with Blue Jays tickets sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 15 runs! Talk about excitement!
Yankees pitcher Alfredo Aceves (3.88 ERA) got the win, while Ricky Romero (4.15 ERA) took the loss for the Blue Jays. Chad Gaudin went 3.2 innings for the Yankees, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Yankees was David Robertson (3.38), Brian Bruney (4.40), and Damaso Marte (8.38). The Blue Jays’s starter Ricky Romero went 4.1 innings, allowed 6 hits, no home runs and 5 earned runs with 6 walks and 7 strikeouts. Brandon League (5.23), Shawn Camp (3.61), and Jason Frasor (2.33) also pitched for the Blue Jays. With the win, Aceves’s record goes to 10-1, while Romero is at 11-7.
Jorge Posada provided much of the offense for the Yankees with an incredible 4 runs batted in. In addition to the 10 runs, the Yankees scored 10 hits and committed one error. Jorge Posada led the Yankees in hitting with 4 hits, followed by Melky Cabrera’s 2 hits, and Alex Rodriguez with 2. Robinson Cano had a tough day at the plate, leaving 5 runners on base. Raul Chavez had the most hits for the Blue Jays (3), followed by Travis Snider (2). The Blue Jays scored 5 runs, 6 hits and one error.
Umpiring duties were performed by Scott Barry, Jeff Nelson, Tim Tschida and Bob Davidson. There were 22,773 Blue Jays ticket holders in attendance at Rogers Centre.
The win puts the Yankees at a record of 86-48, at the top of their division, while the loss brings the Blue Jays to 59-74, (26.5 games behind the division leader). The Blue Jays and Yankees go again tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
