The Tampa Bay Rays squeaked to victory over the New York Yankees yesterday at New Yankee Stadium with the Rays earning the win 8 to 6. Rays pitcher James Shields (3.08 ERA) got the win, while Andy Pettitte (2.68 ERA) took the loss for the Yankees. James Shields went 7.1 solid innings for the Rays, allowed 8 hits, one home run and 3 earned runs with one walk and 7 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Rays was Dan Wheeler (1.98), and Randy Choate (7.15). The Yankees’s starter Andy Pettitte went 5 innings, allowed 9 hits, 3 home runs and 6 earned runs with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.
