Yankees edge Blue Jays by 1

The New York Yankees barely got a “W” over the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday at Rogers Centre with the Yankees winning 4 to 3. It was quite a game that followers with NY Yankees tickets will be talking about for days.

Yankees pitcher Javier Vazquez (5.63 ERA) got the win, while Scott Downs (3.81 ERA) took the loss for the Blue Jays. Javier Vazquez went 7 solid innings for the Yankees, allowed one hit, one home run and 2 earned runs with 4 walks and 9 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Yankees was Joba Chamberlain (5.26), and Damaso Marte (3.27). The Blue Jays’s starter Brandon Morrow went 7 innings, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and one earned run with one walk and 8 strikeouts. Jason Frasor (5.09), and Rommie Lewis (3.24) also pitched for the Blue Jays. With the win, Vazquez’s record goes to 5-5, while Downs falls to 1-5. Mariano Rivera earned the save for the Yankees, bringing his saves up to 13.

In addition to the 4 runs, the Yankees managed 6 hits and committed no errors. Robinson Cano led the Yankees in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Brett Gardner’s one hit. Nick Swisher had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Blue Jays didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Blue Jays managed 3 runs, 3 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Bruce Dreckman, Paul Emmel, Bill Hohn and Gary Darling. There were 33,622 Blue Jays ticket holders in attendance at Rogers Centre.
