The New York Yankees challenged the the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday at New Yankee Stadium with the Yankees earning the win 9 to 5. Yankees pitcher Chan Ho Park (5.90 ERA) got the win, while David Price (2.84 ERA) took the loss for the Rays. Andy Pettitte went 2.1 innings for the Yankees, allowed 6 hits, one home run and 3 earned runs with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Yankees was David Robertson (5.01), Boone Logan (4.05), Joba Chamberlain (5.77), and Mariano Rivera (1.01). The Rays’s starter David Price went 5 innings, allowed 7 hits, no home runs and 7 earned runs with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. Randy Choate (6.56), and Andy Sonnanstine (4.22) also pitched for the Rays. With the win, Ho Park’s record goes to 2-1, while Price is at 12-5.
In addition to the 9 runs, the Yankees scored 11 hits and committed one error. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Yankees, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Rays didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. B.J. Upton could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Rays got 5 runs, 12 hits and no errors.
