The Cleveland Indians did battle with the the New York Yankees yesterday at Progressive Field with the Indians picking up the W 4 to 1. It was one heck of a game that folks with Indians tickets aren’t likely to forget.
Indians pitcher Josh Tomlin (1.29 ERA) got the win, while CC Sabathia (3.15 ERA) took the loss for the Yankees. Josh Tomlin went 7 solid innings for the Indians, allowed 3 hits, no home runs and one earned run with no walks and 2 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Indians was Rafael Perez (3.53), and Joe Smith (4.26). The Yankees’s starter CC Sabathia went 7 innings, allowed 9 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Chan Ho Park (5.40) also pitched for the Yankees. With the win, Tomlin’s record goes to 1-0, while Sabathia is at 13-4. Chris Perez earned the save for the Indians, bringing his saves up to 10.
In addition to the 4 runs, the Indians scored 10 hits and committed no errors. Shin-Soo Choo led the Indians in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Matt LaPorta’s 2 hits, and Austin Kearns with 2. Shelley Duncan had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Yankees didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Mark Teixeira could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Yankees managed one run, 5 hits and 2 errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Dan Iassogna, Dale Scott, Jerry Meals and Mark Wegner. There were 27,416 Indians ticket holders in attendance at Progressive Field.
