The New York Yankees took on the the Oakland Athletics yesterday at New Yankee Stadium with the Yankees coming out on top 9 to 3. Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes (4.10 ERA) got the win, while Vin Mazzaro (4.05 ERA) took the loss for the Athletics. Also pitching for the Yankees was Chad Gaudin (5.34), and David Robertson (4.05). The Athletics’s starter Vin Mazzaro went 3.2 innings, allowed 7 hits, 3 home runs and 7 earned runs with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Boof Bonser (4.73) also pitched for the Athletics. With the win, Hughes’s record goes to 16-6, while Mazzaro is at 6-7.
In addition to the 9 runs, the Yankees scored 9 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Yankees, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Marcus Thames had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Athletics didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Jeff Larish could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Athletics scored 3 runs, 6 hits and one error.
